Always have questions prepared for an interview – failure to do so indicates a lack of interest to the interviewer.

 

Although questions vary depending on the industry, employer and position, some common information you might want to find out from the employer includes:

 

  1. Why is this position vacant?
  2. What is the opportunity for growth both within the role and within the company?
  3. Who will I work most closely with?
  4. What are their backgrounds and responsibilities?
  5. Who will I directly report to? What is their background and responsibilities?
  6. Are there any direct reports to this position?
  7. Are there any functional reports to this position?
  8. What are the department’s/company’s plans for growth in the future?
  9. How do you think the economy will affect company plans in the marketplace?
  10. Of all of the people who have held this position, what were the main qualities of the most successful person?
  11. Can you describe the corporate culture and the type of individual that best fits into this culture?
  12. Does the company provide opportunities for continuous learning?
  13. What are the primary challenges I would be facing in this role?
  14. Are there any immediate initiatives that I would be responsible for that I can prepare for in advance?
  15. What are the short term and long term expectations for this role?
